Job Description
Linux Engineer.
Linux Engineer / Linus Systems Administrator required by a growing technology company in Dublin South.
The role is to be responsible for the daily operation, monitoring and configuration activities for the companies Linux based infrastructure.
The successful candidate will ensure the stability and performance of our open source infrastructure. They will also be expected to design, build, and implement changes to ensure performance and to meet future operational requirements. This role is an integral part of the Company’s strategic direction, development, and growth.
The ideal candidate will work effectively in a team environment and have flexibility to adapt to change. In addition you will have strong organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to multi-task
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the administration, support and performance of the open source infrastructure.
- Design and implement infrastructure enhancements and solutions
- Continually strive to guarantee 100% uptime, 24/7
- Work on best practices for monitoring, security improvements, uptime, change control, etc.
Own and manage problems and incidents to ensure problem resolution within agreed service levels. - Perform operational tasks such as OS deployments, security configuration and patch management
- Assist with development of major Technical Operations projects, including project technical design, time and resource management and implementation Ability to work with large complex systems
- Develop design specifications, author internal documentation and participate in the review of these documents
Skills / Experience Required:
- 3+ Years’ Experience of hands on administration and support of open source technologies with expert knowledge in Linux, Apache, PHP and MySQL configuration in Enterprise Environments.
- 3+ Years’ Experience of hands on experience with shell scripting
- Expert knowledge of configuration management systems (CFEngine, Puppet) design, implementation and support
- Excellent knowledge of mail systems (Postfix).
- Excellent knowledge of monitoring systems (Nagios, Cacti).
- Expert knowledge of system and network management concepts
- Excellent knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, NTP, HTTP and routing.
- Excellent knowledge of HP Intel based server hardware and technology
- Excellent knowledge of OS Imaging / deployment and patching solutions
- Excellent Written and Oral communication skills.
Experience with the following is highly desirable:
- Proxy Server (Squid, Varnish) knowledge
- SNMP Knowledge.
- Web application Technologies.
- Firewall Technologies.
- Memcached Experience
- Systems benchmarking and sizing.
- SAN and NAS Technologies.
- Cisco Switches and Routers.
- Load Balancing Technologies.
- HP System Insight Manager, Insight Dynamics or similar
