Full-Time Lead Ruby on Rails Developer

WorkCompass – Posted by workcompass Cork, Cork, Ireland

Job Description

WorkCompass is seeking a Lead Rails Developer to drive its next phase of development.

WorkCompass is an alternative to the universally-hated annual performance review which destroys motivation, stifles creativity and actually reduces individual, group and business performance.

It’s an online performance collaboration platform that allows managers and their staff continuously set goals together, monitor progress, record feedback and surface the issues affecting motivation.

This role is ideal for a senior developer wishing to take the next step in their career, side-step the corporate ladder and lead a growing startup. It is envisaged that a successful candidate would transition over time to the CTO role.

So if you aspire to be a CTO, solve a huge problem, build something you can be proud of and are willing to work hard to get there this may be for you.

This is a unique opportunity to take a leading role in a revenue-generating startup that’s scaling quickly and expanding into larger markets.

Your background:

  • At least 10 years experience in software development, most recently in Ruby on Rails or a modern javascript framework (e.g. Backbone)
  • A solid understanding of modern software engineering practices including test-driven development, continuous integration, and agile development. And how to introduce them to an organisation.
  • An appreciation of trade-offs and constraints, and a pragmatic approach to software development.
  • An interest in the business of startups: copywriting, marketing approaches, user onboarding, sales techniques, pricing strategies, and so on. These might not be your core responsibilities but you should have an interest in these conversations.

You should have experience of…

  • Growing and leading technical teams
  • Managing the technical direction of a modern web product
  • Scaling a web product in conjunction with the business needs (features, performance, design etc)
  • Communicating and working with non-technical users and colleagues
  • Integrating user experience processes into the product development
  • Working with and directing designers
  • Building enterprise applications
  • Mitigating security vulnerabilities and managing data protection issues

Salary and benefits are negotiable and competitive.
