Research Associate/Software Developer - Technology Transfer

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term contract position as a Software Developer (Technology Transfer). This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), and will be based in the Dublin offices of the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC).
This new position will play a major role in ICHEC's new technology transfer programme. This role will consist mostly of project collaborations with Irish SMEs from a broad range of sectors.
The position is available immediately and the contract duration is until end December 2011.
Background required:
Applicants must have at least a minimum of degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent). A minimum of three years experience in software development in industrial or academic context is essential, as is proficiency in a traditional programming language (C, C++, Java, etc.), a scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby, etc.), and familiarity with UNIX/Linux environments and the X11 platform.
Skills required:
The candidate will show strong numerical skills, as well as experience in either of Statistics, Machine Learning or some other Data Mining domain. Experience with a numerical/data analysis platform (R, Mathematica, etc.) would be preferred, as well as familiarity with a web development framework (Django, Drupal, Rails, etc.).
Finally, cloud computing experience in the following areas would be advantageous: instance profiling / optimisation, application migration and benchmarking, capacity planning and trend analysis, configuration management and automated deployment.
Salary range: €38,286 - €44,871 per annum (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
