Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term contract position as a System Programmer. This position is funded by the Higher Education Authority (HEA), and will be based in the Dublin offices of the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC). The position is available immediately and the contract duration is until end June 2011.

ICHEC is seeking an experienced Linux system programmer to help run our large HPC cluster infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a broad range of Linux system administration experience, have a high level of initiative and be able to work well as part of a distributed team in multiple roles and on different projects concurrently.

Background required:

Applicants should have a background in computer science, science or engineering and skills which include Linux system administration, network administration and services (DNS, LDAP, e-mail, etc), applications software deployment, and good scripting ability.

Experience in HPC cluster management would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

Help ensure continued high availability of Linux servers and clusters.
Install, configure and maintain software on Linux systems.
Provide technical support for internal and external users.
Periodic out of hours on-call duty.
Contribute towards the design and deployment of new services and systems.

Salary range: €38,286 – €43,393 per annum (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
